Let's be real... We are all lovers of junk food; fries and burgers no less. I can never resist a good bowl of truffle fries (or fries even), and if we were to dine out together, you will see me reaching out for them first! For junk food foodies like me, you will be pleased to know of a new fast food joint in town.
Run by the same guys behind Idealite Singapore, grEAT burger is a take-out joint that serves burgers, salads, acai and smoothie bowls. Located conveniently in the basement of Tanjong Pagar Centre (Tanjong Pagar MRT), get your healthy meatless burgers here that are MSG-free. Their patties are also advertised as having no gluten, but double check with the staff to be safe.
Surprisingly, there are no fries served here but there is tempura mushroom for a replacement. Also, for a combo meal, you can choose between their salad or smoothie bowl to go with your burger. Additionally, if you want to have a drink to quench your thirst, add $2 to your meal. Pictured above is their tofu salad accompanied by their kiwi wheatgrass drink. I am a lover of wheatgrass drinks since young, so naturally, I would gravitate towards this. But they have other options such as ginger tea, nutmeg drink and lime juice to name a few.
Since there were 2 tummies there to feast, we had quite a big spread on our table (and also got weird stares from diners sitting nearby). The three burgers we had were Kimchi, Nasi Lemak and Smokey BBQ. Other than the tofu salad mentioned above, we also had the privilege of trying their chocolate smoothie bowl (not the best I've had).
The smokey BBQ is one of the burgers raved highly on their Facebook reviews page, but it wasn't anything spectacular to us. There was one burger, however, that we really wanted more of and that's the Nasi Lemak burger. The crunch to the burger patty is similar to what you would get from a crunchy chicken burger with a meaty texture without the meat. I know you think that is highly impossible but try it for yourself to believe it!
Second to the line was the kimchi burger. It's slightly spicy after multiple bites but at the same time, my tolerance for spice is not the best. I can eat curry and only a little bit of chilli padi, so perhaps you can gauge the spice level from there. I would recommend this to kimchi lovers but not for those who are not able to stomach spicy food.
There is just one thing to take note of before coming down here to eat; as this is a take-out joint, there are no seats in the store. You have to find a sitting area that's located behind Guzman y Gomez - don't worry if you are unsure of where this is as there are arrows pointed to the sitting area. This sitting area is catered to all the customers for the F&B outlets located in B2. As we were there after the lunch crowd, there were ample tables but if you were to be here during the peak period, there may be limited seats available.
There is no WOW factor to keep me coming back for more (other than for the Nasi Lemak Burger, but it's still worth a try if you want a healthier alternative to fast food burgers, especially if you work in the CBD.
